On the 28th-30th of September about 300 people of various age and background interested either in Jewish knowledge or in Jewish hanging out, or both, went to “Raivola” – nice resort 70 kilometers away from St.Petersburg. The wide range of topics from deeply Talmudic discussion of dealing with property to the staff management experience with some Jewish academic issues in the middle, attracted listeners not letting them to enjoy the autumn forest outside. But it is fair to tell that the weather was on our side – it was chilly and drizzling all the days through, and dry and warm lecture halls were even more attractive. Guests from Moscow, Novgorod, Baltic countries, UK, USA and Israel attended the Festival. The team of volunteers enthusiastically took care of all the aspects of Limmud. People were learning, listening, chatting in the halls and dining room, rejoicing the opportunity to make new contacts, to catch good lectures and the lecturers. Young limmudnics added their energy and voices into the unique atmosphere of the Festival.
Experienced limmudnics say that every Limmud is different. Ours is more academic, knowledgeable than the others, they say. But it is worthwhile to mention that in St.Petersburg we love to dance and sing and listen to the good music in spite of the serious content of the other options. “Optional”, “your choice” – these key principles of learning at Limmud were very new in our first Festival, but this year it was clear that participants got used to them and manage their schedules with ease.
Planning Limmud-2013 we invite you to follow our web-site http://limmud.spb.ru/ and as soon as we announce the Festival – to save the date and come.
